Bunbury, Western Australia

For those who follow me on Facebook and Instragram you would know that I took a little road trip down to Bunbury for a couple of nights the week before last, for those who don't...well you do now! ;)
I was pretty happy to get out of Perth, even if it was a really quick trip. Sometimes, you just need to get out of your usual comfort zone/area/location and just breathe in something new.

It didn't take too much convincing to pack my bags and say 'Sayonara Perth', one of my best friends moved down there at the beginning of the year and it was due time that I went and visited again, oh and I couldn't say no to an invitation of a ladies night with her and her gal pals! It also gave me a day to myself, to be a stranger, a no one, in a town I hadn't really explored before.

'Please be a traveler, not a tourist.
Try new things, meet new people, and look beyond
what's right in front of you. Those are the keys to
understanding this amazing world we live in.'

The weather couldn't have been any more perfect, for Winter that is! Apart from some cloud coverage at times, and the fact that it was darn cold, the day was beaut. No need to worry about an umbrella for me as I walked around! :)

One of the things I checked out was a new gallery called Dipikshens featuring amazing work by local artists, so if you're down that way drop in! You might be greeted by the two adorable pooches I met there! As well as Fiona, the lovely owner.

I also decided to be brave and climb to the top of Marlston Hill lookout to check out the view of the city, it was pretty swell. If you're ever in Bunbury I recommend it even if you have a big fear of heights like me, you can see the whole city, the port, the ocean, and beyond.

The only downside to getting to the top of the lookout, was the fact I had to get back down. I would say my speed was like a nana, slow and shaky. I'd call it a win that I made it back down without having a freak out and crying...yep, I'm that scared of heights haha.

One thing I really loved about Bunbury, was how friendly the locals were! I had a good ol' yarn with one at the top of the lookout, I joined a conversation in one of the local stores discussing the new street art, as well as a chat with a local fishing on the rocks.

When traveling, even if it's in your own state, I believe one should get involved with where you are, even if it is just have chats with the locals. Like the quote above: be a traveler, not a tourist.

My day of exploring, chatting with locals, taking photos, and trying out a local cafe's twist on chai latte, ended with capturing some shots of Rocky Point just after sunset. I think it's now my favourite landscape shot I've taken so far! :)
